Firefox Reality VR Browser Has Arrived
Mozilla is making the Web easier to browse in virtual reality.
The company on Tuesday launched Firefox Reality, a cross-platform browser built specifically for virtual and augmented reality (aka mixed reality) headsets. Information technology'southward available for download now in the Oculus, Daydream, and Viveport app stores.
In a weblog postal service, Mozilla's Master Research and Development Officer Sean White said the company's Mixed Reality team designed the new browser "from the basis up" with VR-friendly features such equally the ability to search the Web with your voice via your headset's microphone.
"Text input is still a task for virtual reality, and this is a great first pace towards solving that," he wrote.
The browser tin can also help you discover VR-friendly content. Mozilla'southward Head of Mixed Reality Platform Strategy Andre Vrignaud said the squad spoke to early VR headset owners and repeatedly heard that content discovery is an issue. With, Firefox Reality y'all can even open a Private Window, so the browser won't save your visited pages, searches, cookies, or any temporary files.
It's missing some other key features, though, including back up for bookmarks, 360 videos, and accounts. Mozilla said those features are slated to arrive "in the coming months."
"This is version i.0 of Firefox Reality and version ane.1 is right around the corner," White wrote.
